In their own words: a video Spotlight on student stories
At VSAC's Day at the State House, we gathered to celebrate 60 years of investment in education—and in Vermont’s future. The students who shared their paths that day represent the impact of that commitment.
This week we bring you a video Spotlight with students’ stories—in their own words—from that event. Their voices reflect the heart of our mission and the lasting impact of opportunity.
- Syeda Hussnane, from Fair Haven, is studying at Vermont State University Castleton, completing her Bachelor of Education. Syeda was a participant in VSAC’s GEAR UP program and serves on VSAC's Alumni Advisory Committee. In part, Vermont State University Castleton was an option for her because she receives the Vermont Grant.
- Parker Hoblin, from Colchester, has pursued several different career pathways and recently received a Vermont Trades Forgivable Loan to help fund his Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) training. Parker is now driving for Lamell Lumber in Essex.
- Kaitlyn Dingman, from East Dummerston, has been persistent on her path to becoming a nurse. She received 802Opportunity to help cover the costs of the prerequisites she needed at the Community College of Vermont, the Nursing Forgivable Loan toward her LPN coursework, and is currently receiving Freedom & Unity at Vermont State University as she completes her studies.
Through programs like 802Opportunity, Freedom & Unity, the Vermont Grant, and interest-free forgivable loans for trades and nursing, these students have pursued their goals with determination and resilience.
Investing in education is an investment in Vermont itself. By supporting students and families, VSAC and our partners are helping to build a stronger, more resilient future for our state with opportunities that are accessible to all—not just those with financial means.
We’re grateful to continue this work and to keep building pathways for Vermont students—today and for generations to come.
